Positive Life Concepts is actively seeking a senior level Structural/Civil Engineer. Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Prepare Construction Work Packages, Design Basis Memorandum’s, Front End Engineering Design, Engineering Design Specifications and Construction Specifications
  • Strong ability to develop new business and to bring in new clients.
  • Must be very presentable  
  • Preparing loading and load combinations based on applicable codes and standards
  • Reviewing or coordinating reviews of shop drawings for structural adequacy and accordance with structural drawings
  • Checking complex structural engineering deliverables including structural designs, rack structure supports, structural foundation drawings, main structural frames, secondary steel frames, platforms and access, architectural plan drawings and load foundation calculations
  • Applying extensive knowledge of structural engineering designs including steel structures, concrete structures, steel buildings, piling and foundations and related element designs
  • Reviewing and approving calculations completed by others
  • Ability to review structural steel erection and fabrication vendor drawings
  • Continuously expanding your knowledge for new technologies and practice
  • Working closely on construction plans with clients, architects, and other professionals
  • Developing design ideas using software programs  
  • Investigating the properties of materials and advising which is most suitable 
  • Inspecting unsafe buildings and recommending options for repairs or demolition 
  • Making sure that projects meet legal guidelines, environmental directives, and health and safety requirements 
  • Preparing bids for tenders 
  • Supervising project teams
  • Giving progress reports to clients and senior managers

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Must be a registered member with APEGA and in good standing. Provisional members will also be considered with the experience requirements
  • Civil engineers are also encouraged to apply 
  • Minimum of three years experience as a senior level Structural Engineer is a must, 10 - 15 years total experience
  • Provable experience in a similar or par position within Canada, particularly in Alberta; will be given preference
  • Excellent communication and writing skills and the ability to work with all levels of management
  • Strong working knowledge of structural steel design for building framing, mechanical equipment supports and piping supports;
  • Expertise in use of S-frame software is required
  • Working knowledge of Canadian building codes and industry standards
  • Bonus points for those that are familiar with industrial clients such as Suncor, Syncrude, CNRL, Husky and Shell
  • Excellent mathematics and IT skills 
  • The ability to analyze complex problems and assess solutions 
  • The ability to explain design plans and ideas 
  • Good project management skills 
  • The ability to meet deadlines 
  • Financial management ability 
  • A sound knowledge of construction methods, health and safety, and legal regulations
