Scope of Position

PERI’s Technical Sales Consultants work closely with our customers to understand their needs for specific projects. Based on the needs that the TSCs document, an Engineer designs cost effective formwork, shoring and scaffolding solutions, and prepares drawings (including material take-offs) for standard designs and, as training and experience allow, custom designs under the supervision of an Engineering Supervisor. The Engineer is expected to attend meetings, develop direct relationships with customers, and communicate directly with them on technical issues. The final design is used by the customer to assemble equipment that we rent to them in order to safely and efficiently pour concrete structural elements. The Engineer directs design efforts and checks the work of junior team members. As a Professional Engineer, they take responsibility for their design work, affixing their seal as required. As their experience dictates, they may also train and seal the work of other Designers.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Interact with PERI’s Technical Sales Consultants, customers and other design professionals in order to provide optimized cost-effective design solutions
  • Develop formwork, shoring and scaffolding solutions for various kinds of concrete construction projects
  • Perform and document design calculations, including the use of structural analysis software, to ensure safe designs
  • Produce the following engineering documents (or, when the occasion warrants, direct their development by more junior team members):
    • Design layout drawings
    • Assembly drawings
    • Steel fabrication drawings
    • Material lists
  •    Utilize PERI’s more advanced systems when required
  •    Provide on-site support when required
  •    Affix their seal to their design work, and the work of others as required
  •    Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A degree in Civil Engineering (Civil/Structural)
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer in their Branch Province (registration is a requirement)
  • 3 plus years of experience in structural engineering and drafting with AutoCAD
  • Experience using structural analysis software
  • Excellent understanding of structural and architectural drawings, as well as construction sequencing
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Outstanding organizational skills, drive, and the ability to prioritize
  • The ability to learn quickly, work well both as a member of a team and independently in a fast paced environment, and mentor and train junior team members
  • Understanding of Canadian Building Standards and Codes an asset
  • PERI product knowledge and construction industry experience an asset

Working Conditions

  • 8-hour work day
